Advanced Security Features

The following tables outline the features of SmartTimer's One Touch or Advanced security options.

Start Menu

One Touch Advanced Description
X Classic Start Menu
Forces the use of the windows 98/2000 start menu over the layout in Windows XP or Vista
X Hide Favourites
Hides the Favourites menu in the start menu
X Hide Documents
Hides the Documents menu in the start menu
X Remove My Documents
Removes the My Documents sub folder from the documents menu.
X Remove My Pictures
Removes the My Pictures sub folder from the documents menu.
X Remove My Music
Removes the My Music sub folder from the documents menu.
X Do not save Recent Documents
Will not update the Recent Documents section of the Documents Folder with the latest files/pages opened.
X Clear Recent Documents at Log off
This enables the system to clear the Recent Document when the windows is logged off or rebooted.
X Hide Settings
Hides the Settings section of the Start menu
X Remove Network Connections
Removes the Network Connections sub folder from the settings menu
X Hide Find
These items remove the said items from the start menu.
X Hide Run
X Hide Shutdown
X No Help
X Hide Log Off
Hides Log Off from CTRL-ALT-DEL
X Hide Common Groups
This removes all folders and items that are visible to all users. Only those items belonging to the logged in windows user will be visible.
X Hide Instrumentation
This setting stops Windows from recording user tracking information including which applications a user runs and which files and documents are being accessed.
X No Network Places
Removes the Network Places from the System.
X No Drag and Drop
Denies the ability to drag and drop items onto the task bar
X Hide Admin Tools
Hides the Administration Tools on the Start Menu
X Hide Settings in Taskbar
Prevents access to the Taskbar Settings.
X No Toolbars on Taskbar
Removes any toolbars placed on the Taskbar
X Lock Taskbar
Prevents any changes being made to the Taskbar
X No Clock on Taskbar
Removes the Taskbar Clock
X No Tray Items on Taskbar
Removes any Tray Items from the Taskbar
X Win Security (Terminal Services)
Hide the Windows NT Security menu item on the Start Menu of a terminal server session.
X Remove Logoff from Start Menu
Removes the log off from the start menu.

Control Panel

Forces the use of the 2000 style control panel in Windows XP.

Enabling this options hides the file and printer sharing controls, stopping users from disabling or creating new file or printer shares

Removes the ability to Add printers.

Removes the ability to Delete printers.
X Disable Printer General Pages
Removes the ability to see the general page in Printer Properties

Desktop

X Disable Lock Workstation
Turns off Lock Workstation in 2000 and XP when you press CTRL-ALT-DEL
X Disable Change Password
Turns off Change Password in 2000 and XP when you press CTRL-ALT-DEL
X Hide "C" in Explorer
Hide C Drive from Explorer so a customer cannot see it.
X Disable Tray Context menus
This setting removes the context menus (right click on the taskbar) for the system tray, including the Start button, Tab control, and Clock.
X Disable Moving Bands
This setting disables tool bar customisation.
X Disable Customise bands
By default users are able to select which toolbars are displayed either be right clicking the toolbar itself, or by changing the options from the View menu. This tweak locks the toolbars, removing the ability to change which are displayed.
X Disable Low Disk Space Checks
Turns off low disk space notification
X Disable Internal CD Burning (XP)
Stops XP native CD Writing if a burner is installed
X No Win Keys

Turns off the ability to adjust the Proxy Server Settings. Ideal if you wish to force the use of a proxy server on the browser.

Removes the Advanced Tab from the IE Control Panel

Network and Security

One Touch Advanced Description
X Persistent Network Mappings
Remember any Network Mappings in Network Neighbourhood.
X Hide Entire Network in Network Neighbourhood
Hides the Entire Network in Network Neighbourhood, thus only allowing you to see your own workgroup
X Hide Network Connect and Disconnect in Explorer
Prevents users from making additional network connections by removing the Map Network Drive and Disconnect Network Drive buttons from the toolbar in Explorer and also removing them from the Context menu of My Computer and the Tools menu of Explorer.
X Disable General Password Caching
This turns off general password caching, like the passwords used for shares and so forth. This enforces internal security by making people type in share passwords when required.
X Do not Display Last Logon Name (NT/2000)
Selecting this will mean that when windows logs on, it will not show the user name of the last person to successfully log on in the log on dialog

Other Features

One Touch Advanced Description
X Automatically Log into Windows
This will allow windows 2000 and XP to automatically log a single user in
X Force the Use of Automatic Logon
Normally when a Windows machine is configured to automatically logon to a specified account users can bypass this and enter alternate account information. This tweak forces the machine to auto logon and to ignore any bypass attempts.
X Disable Automatic Logon Shift Override Feature
When using the automatic login feature it is possible for a user to hold the Shift key to bypass the login sequence and enter a username and password. This feature disables the ability to override the function.
X Default Download Directory
This allows you to choose the default download directory for Internet Explorer
X Disable File Download in Internet Explorer
Turns off the ability to download files in Internet Explorer. Only web pages, and pictures will be downloaded.
X Click to confirm all saved settings
This is a reminder function especially to save the manually entered information like user name and password.
X Refresh Security Features
Clicking this button will allow you to recheck security features as it rereads the registry looking for appropriate values for the security panel display.
